About Us
Hi, my name is David Matthews. I lost my father when I was 10 years old. I took my father’s unexpected death hard. My mom stopped going to church and without a male role model or Godly wisdom, I became emotionally and spiritually bankrupt.
Due to my poor discipline, I barely graduated high school, flunked out of college with a 0.6 GPA, and was deeply in debt. By God’s Grace, I was able to turn my love of computers into a career. However, even with a bigger income, I still struggled to make ends meet. I felt out of control and had no idea how to change that.
Then it happened…
I was hit by two disasters back to back. God was trying to get my attention.
I got a potentially life-threatening skin disease. A month later, I lost my IT job at a cabinet manufacturer due to the mortgage crisis of two-thousand six. To cover my expenses, I liquidated my 401k.
After 5 months of chaos, I left the office an infectious disease specialist with a clean bill of health. I sat in my car and cried. I said to myself, “I finally have my life back…”
God whispered in my ear, “But, what have you done with your life?”
At that moment, feeling completely convicted, I made a decision to get my life in order and manage my money better.
Over the next decade, I learned from experts why I was behaving the way I was. This led me to obtain my Bachelor’s in Psychology, graduating with a 3.8 GPA, a Masters in a behavioral science degree with a 3.6 GPA, and becoming an International Professional Certified Coach.
I now understand why people, including myself, make bad decisions with money. However, God kept calling me back to the Bible. Eventually, I learned the lesson he was trying to teach me. God told me it was time to teach others what he had graciously shown me.
If you struggle with your finances or you want to understand why people do what they do with money, I invite you to join my small group program, Financial Grace. Using stories from the Bible and modern behavioral science, we will explore why we make bad decisions with money, learn how to take back control, and use simple, interactive activities to change how we behave with money. I look forward to helping you become a better steward with the money God has blessed you with.
